borderlands

The next time you go shopping for a new gun, ask yourself one question: Are you a man? If you answer in the affirmative, then you're ready for a Torgue. You see, we at Torgue make guns for real men. Tough guys. Badasses. The kind of guys your dad was and you hope to be! Torgue doesn't screw around making lightweight toys and we sure as hell aren't concerned with selling you a stylish accessory like those hip-huggers over at Maliwan. No. We make them tough, and we make them heavy. It's up to you to make 'em dead. Do it with a Torgue.
— Torgue sales pitch, Official Borderlands Guide

Torgue is a weapons manufacturer. It follows an often violent and out-of-the-line naming scheme for their weapons. In Borderlands 2, they often contain sexual innuendos.

In Borderlands 2 it is revealed that the Torgue corporation was founded by Mister Torgue High-Five Flexington, who serves as the company's CEO and spokesperson.

Borderlands

Torgue guns can easily be identified by their black, grey or gunmetal paint schemes and heavy construction – a stark contrast to many other manufacturers who have much brighter color schemes for their weapons.

This manufacturer makes above average quality firearms, and are more common than the Atlas Corporation's weapons. They make good shotguns, heavy machine guns and sniper rifles. They tend not to excel in any one area – they might not have the astounding accuracy of a Hyperion or the raw power of a Jakobs – but instead are well-rounded.

It is also discovered during Firepower: Plight Of The Middle Man that Torgue is supplying weapons directly to the bandits, which greatly annoys Marcus Kincaid. Oddly, for their constant needling of Jakobs for their use of wood in their guns, Torgue fabricates various plywood boards found throughout New Haven and Old Haven.

Products

Torgue manufacturers combat shotguns, machine guns, repeaters, rocket launchers, semi-auto sniper rifles, and submachine guns.

Borderlands 2

In Borderlands 2, Torgue's main defining feature on all of their guns is explosive elemental tech. They also have stopped making sniper rifles and SMGs, instead focusing on powerful yet somewhat inaccurate rocket launchers, pistols, shotguns & assault rifles. Their rocket launchers and shotguns are among the most powerful in Borderlands 2. They also have a much more striking and definitive paint scheme that incorporates racing checker stripes. The lower tier/more common Torgue guns use a very industrial and brutal looking green and yellow paint scheme that feature yellow and black checkers, while the higher tier Torgue weapons are identified with a flashy silver and red paint scheme with black and white checkers.

White weapons
These weapons appear in normal grey metal that's been heavily corroded and weathered. It has a visible red and black Torgue sticker and a weathered racing design on the barrel.
Green weapons
Slightly corroded in places, have green and orange coloring, and have numerous racing patterns including white and black stripes as well as yellow and black checkerboard. It also has a matching Torgue sticker.
Blue weapons
Mostly clean light grey metal with a white and black checkerboard pattern on part of it. Although polished, the metal used on this tier of weaponry appears to be heavily scratched in corners. The Torgue sticker is a red, white, and blue combination. Assault rifles, pistols, and shotguns receive a larger cowling, and the shotgun gains a shell holder.
Purple weapons
Similar to the previous tier only with much shinier metal, no scratches whatsoever, and with a large red pattern near the barrel of the weapon. The sticker is black and white with just the text and the outline in black. Also the shotguns' clip is visually bigger.
Gemstone weapons[1]
These appear to be mostly made of a material that looks like black granite, with other parts using a lighter material. The Torgue sticker is dark grey with black text and a black outline. Unlike other "gem prefix" weapons, no parts of these weapons feature a reflective metal material, as most normal rocks aren't reflective.
E-tech weapons[1]
Consists of six extra recoil dampers on the front, along with the signature E-tech 'fin' stabilizers to boot. The skin appears to be a mixture of a military and a desert ranger camouflage, having a signature military 'star' on the side. The front and stock of the weapon consists of weathered-teal and polished crimson paint jobs.
There are only two e-tech weapons by Torgue: SWORDSPLOSION!!! and Unicornsplosion.
Legendary weapons
Most of Torgue's legendary weapons consist of using military arsenal based skins, having the military "Star" etched onto both the Flakker and Unkempt Harold. The Nukem has a unique golden metallic skin with a "trefoil" symbol on the sides, as a reference to Duke Nukem. The KerBlaster, however, appears to use a purple tier skin with an orange and yellow paint job, rather than red and crimson. Ogre's scheme is completely different as it seems to be made from worn plastic with orange scrawls on it. All Torgue legendary weapons, aside from Ogre, uses their manufacturer's Unique Barrel.
Seraph weapons[2]
The only seraph weapons manufactured by Torgue include the Seeker, Ahab and the Devastator. They include a light-blue and silver (with a very light hint of pink) color scheme. The Torgue logo is also embedded in a very shiny metallic paint, suggesting it isn't a sticker, unlike the other tiers,
Pearlescent weapons[3]
The Tunguska has a very industrialized metallic body, composed with a matte black paint job, and yellow stripes on the front end of the launcher. This skin is very similar to that of the Unkempt Harold, but isn't an exact replica as it lacks the star icon on the sides. The Carnage uses a unique dark grey skin with a stylised yellow stripe on the body and a crimson stripe on the barrel. Other details are in a lighter steel grey.
Effervescent Weapons
The World Burn, Peak Opener, and the Unicornsplosion are the rainbow-skin versions of the Nukem, KerBlaster, and Swordsplosion.

Usage & Description

In Borderlands 2, Torgue weapons have generally high damage and low rates of fire with subpar projectile velocity.

Torgue weapons are highly effective against Nomad Taskmasters and other physically shielded enemies, as they tend to be slow, and the splash damage can hit through their shields, allowing them to be consistently damaged. However, against fast enemies or aerial enemies like Rakk, Torgue weapons will often fail to hit them.

Usage

Torgue weapons are essentially unchanged from Borderlands 2 as they do not use the newly introduced cryo element. However, Togue weapons do benefit from the cryo element's synergy due to frozen enemies taking +200% explosive and critical damage. In effect, a Torgue weapon that can inflict critical hits would be able to easily deal 500% of its normal critical damage to a frozen enemy.

Properties

Torgue gyrojet round

Torgue gyrojet round

Torgue weapons, akin to Borderlands 2, retain their explosive properties and inflict splash damage. Because Explosive is no longer an element, Torgue weapons can spawn with or without any element, allowing them to take advantage of elemental affinities.

Unlike their designs in the previous game, which only featured racecar-styled checker paintjobs, Torgue guns now have paintjobs based on nose art from World War II fighter aircraft, with bright "noses" on the gun barrels that may include checker patterns, stars, or numbers; the rear of their guns additionally feature "tail art" such as a stylized Mr. Torgue, the Torgue logo, or large numbers. In contrast to their striking colors in Borderlands 2, Torgue guns in this game feature muted color schemes due to their fighter jet motif, from silver with red stripes (common), green with yellow checkers (uncommon), blue with white checkers (rare), and black with red and yellow detailing (epic).

Torgue gun accessories are all clunky and styled like parts of a car engine, moving even when not in use; these include large exhaust pipes, exhaust manifolds, pistons and crankshafts. Their aiming reticules are styled after fighter planes, either having brutal-looking iron sights or glass sights with an aiming reticule. Their assault rifles and shotguns may feature rounded barrel protectors that make the guns look like miniature fighter jets (with grenade-firing shotguns having an underslung grenade belt), or have none at all and appear sleek and metallic. The back of Torgue rocket launchers can either appear like a large exhaust pipe, or feature small plane spoilers. Most of these accessories are made to boost the projectile speed, which is almost unique among all manufacturers.

All of Torgue's common weapons are semi-automatic, which needs to release the trigger after each shot. None of them can have melee accessory.

Alternative Fire Mode

Torgue makes use of the new alternative fire with two modes: Impact and sticky, found on all Torgue weapons except those with an alien barrel and certain unique and legendary models. These two modes have different properties which change how the bullets behave and can be toggled for different situations.

Impact bullets deal splash damage to all enemies in its blast radius upon contact with any surface. The size of the radius depends on the weapon type, with rocket launchers being the largest and pistols being the smallest, although this can be modified by various stat boosts. Impact bullets travel slowly and have a higher chance to knock enemies away, rendering them fully harmless while they ragdoll into the air.

In sticky mode, the weapon will fire gyrojets that attach to a target, dealing 10% the stated weapon damage, and then deal the remaining 90% upon detonation (both deal splash damage). Sticky rounds can be detonated by reloading, switching firing modes, or changing weapons. These rounds will all explode in sequential order, each one counting as a separate hit, and will deal increased damage the more gyrojets are stuck on a target. Sticky rounds will expire after a short while, disappearing without detonating, which can also happen when too many sticky rounds are active at one time. Sticky bullets have the benefit of traveling faster and weapon fire rate is increased in sticky mode, making it more useful for long range engagements and firing on the move. Stickies also deal far more damage when many are detonated at once, especially when compared to impact bullets, making them useful against durable targets.

The stacking bonus damage is determined by the weapon's magazine part, with smaller magazines dealing more per stack (with some exceptions). This bonus is only applied upon direct hits with an enemy, and only applies individually per enemy (applying stickies on another enemy does not increase the stack damage). Variants that consume multiple ammo per shot will have this bonus divided evenly among projectiles for the same total bonus if all projectiles hit.
