Laser-Sploder is a legendary assault rifle in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Torgue.
It is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source, but has an increased chance to drop from King Bobo located in Voracious Canopy on Eden-6.
Special Weapon Effects
LASERS ≠ EXPLOSIONS?!
- +120% weapon damage. Always elemental.
- Fires a continuous laser beam.
- Fires additional impact rounds with lower accuracy along with laser beam after firing for a second.
- Both laser beam and impact rounds are not affected by projectile modifier.
- Fixed 44-round magazine with fixed shot cost of 2, for 22 shots per reload.
Usage & Description
The Laser-Sploder functions similarly to other beam-style weapons, with the exception of its Gyrojets. The main advantage is its low fire-rate: instead of lowering the DPS, the lower fire-rate simply allows it to consume its already large magazine even slower, and allows it to fire more Gyrojets.
The Laser-Sploder is capable of working well in builds centered around either splash damage, or elemental damage, making it a solid choice for Moze, and a reasonable one for Amara in earlier stages of the game. However, two different types of projectiles means it may struggle to unleash its full firepower on distance or at fast-moving targets. It is recommended to be used like regular rocket-firing weapons.
Trivia
- The weapon's function and flavor text are referencing Mr. Torgue's dislike of laser guns in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
- In the side mission Torgue-o! Torgue-o!, Mr. Torgue commented: "I'M SUPER-DUPER PIS*ED THAT LASER GUNS EXIST! THEY'RE MADE OF LIGHT, WHICH DOESN'T EVEN EXPLODE, LIKE -- WHAT?!". The Laser-Sploder addresses Torgue's main issue with laser weapons not exploding.
