ION LASER is a legendary submachine gun exclusive to the Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC for Borderlands 3 and manufactured by Maliwan. It is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source, but has an increased chance to drop from EVIL Saint Lawrence located in The Spendopticon.
Special Weapon Effects
Particles unite!
- +60% weapon damage. +40% melee damage.
- Upon releasing the trigger, fires a cluster of elemental projectiles that travel wavy and deal splash damage. Pellet count is based on how long the weapon was fired, with up to 8 projectiles after 3 seconds of shooting.
Usage & Description
The ION LASER has a somewhat gimmicky special effect that mostly gives its user the ability to deal some extra damage before reloading or switching weapons. However, the burst of projectiles can stack up for large amounts of damage, which can make short work of enemies with weaknesses to elements. Optimal use of the weapon involves releasing the trigger after several seconds before continuing to fire again.
Notes
- If the player has precise timing, after firing the bonus projectiles, they can tap the trigger repeatedly to fire that number of additional projectiles repeatedly for a few seconds. This can increase the effectiveness of the weapon.
- Hotfix 12/17/2020: Damage increased by 33.3%.
- The ION LASER is internally categorized as an assault rifle instead of a submachine gun.
- Despite not having a melee accessory, the ION LASER has a melee bonus.
