Infection is a seraph pistol in Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt manufactured by Maliwan. It can be obtained as a rare drop from Voracidous the Invincible, Dexiduous the Invincible or Omnd-Omnd-Ohk in Ultimate Vault Hunter mode, or from the Seraph Vendor in Hunter's Grotto.
Special Weapon Effects
Itchy. Tasty. – Always corrosive, extremely high elemental effect damage (+150%) & chance (+330%) but extremely low projectile damage (-78%). Projectiles travel in a slight arc at a low velocity and explode after traveling a certain distance (0.85s).
Usage & Description
What the Infection lacks in raw power, it makes up for in damage over time. The Infection has the highest elemental damage-per-second in the game and is extremely effective against armored enemies. It is also impossible to use at long range as the rounds detonate after a set distance. Against non-armored targets, it can still stack a high amount of status effect damage, although it will be resisted and is ineffective against enemies that can't be corroded.
While the corrode damage per second might appear impressive at first, it bears worth noting that this is damage dealt after a full second of the status being inflicted. Due to the Infection's very low impact damage, purple-rarity Maliwan pistols can eclipse the Infection's damage output even with the corrode damage factored in, and before fire rate bonuses are considered. The Infection can also struggle in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and especially Overpower levels, where the enemy's passive health regeneration rapidly diminishes damage over time.
Notes
- The Infection deals an additional 80% splash damage that is boosted by grenade damage bonuses.
- This splash damage has a 20% larger radius if the projectile exploded due to reaching the end of its flight time, rather than impacting an enemy or surface.
- A Siren with 5 points invested in Flicker and a class mod that boosts Flicker by 5 points (namely the Legendary Siren class mod), it is possible to have a 100% chance of inflicting corrosive damage over time with the Infection.
- Alternatively, a Witch class mod paired with either an Elemental or Bone of the Ancients relic can also achieve a 100% damage-over-time chance with this weapon. This may be easier to acquire, though it lacks the other benefits of a Legendary Siren class mod.
