Specializations are a tree of buffs and skills that become available in Borderlands 4 when the playable character has completed the game.
Mechanics
After completing Borderlands 4's main missions, experience points earned begin to be applied toward Specialization levels, a separate system from class levels. Every Specialization level gives a single point when earned. These points can be put into either one of four Base Nodes, available as soon as specializations are unlocked, or one of three Prestige Nodes that become available after putting ten points each into two parent Base Nodes. Each node gives one or two stat buffs that increase with each point, but all points after the first have diminishing returns.
Each node also has three skills beneath it that become available when one, 10, and 20 points are put into it, respectively. The player can only equip four specialization skills at once, but can change them at any time.
Specialization levels are officially "unlimited," but there is an in-game cap of 100 points in each of the seven nodes; correspondingly, the maximum Specialization level is 700.[1] Note, however, that reaching this level legitimately requires thousands of hours of play.
