Back Ham is a legendary shield in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Anshin. It is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source, but has an increased chance to drop from Archer Rowe located in Meridian Metroplex.

Usage & Description
Back Ham is often compared to The Transformer, another commonly obtained legendary shield providing equal projectile protection (albeit by reflection rather than absorption). Their differences govern usage: Back Ham decreases all damage from behind by 56%, while The Transformer is immune to, and recharged by, shock damage. In shock-rich environments, The Transformer is advantageous, while Back Ham is preferable more generally, especially where the rear is not secure, and more so if damaging non-projectile attacks are likely.
Notes
- Back Ham reflects projectiles along their original trajectories as expanding cones of harmless, short-lived fragments. Opponents take no damage.
Trivia
- The name, flavor text, and effect reference Typhon DeLeon's audio logs, in which he repeatedly refers to a Vercuvian Ham strapped onto his back to protect himself.
- Additionally, the name of the shield sounds similar to the term "back hand", which can be used to refer to hitting someone with the the back of one's hand and inflicting more pain than with the palm due to the presence of the knuckles.
- The Back Ham uses the same skin as the Rough Rider.
